Next Working Party – Saturday 14th Jan 2012 – Copse

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great time over the festive period and that we are all suitably refreshed for some enviro.activities.

As you know this is a busy time of year for us as it’s the best season for hedge laying and tree & hedge planting…. so please watch this space for some forthcoming dates!

In the meantime we’ll be meeting up this Saturday morning as we have an “urgent” job to sort out some storm damage at The Copse.

I know it’s extremely short notice but if you could spare a little time that would be great. If there are enough of us we’ll also take the opportunity to tend to the young hedge alongside New Road and perhaps spread a few chippings

As usual all help is greatly appreciated!

Just join us for whatever spare time you can manage.

We’ll meet up at 9:30am by the woods at the end of New Road - Hope to see you there.

Bulb Planting – Saturday 10th December 2011

Working Party – Saturday 12th November – Dole Hedge

Hi,

On Sunday the 830 runners had a good send off from The Crossing Keeper’s Hut, with plenty of bunting around!

Also thanks to everyone for their help afterwards clearing away the big bag of rubble.

Passers by will have noticed that we also ”pinned” a giant red poppy onto the Hut, in time for 11-11-11.

This Saturday we’ll be meeting up at The Dole (B1049 end) near the turning head opposite No.14.

We’ll be checking on the hedge we planted earlier in the year, spreading chippings and making preparations to start laying the remainder of the old hedge, plus clearing the rubble that’s appeared there.

As usual all help is greatly appreciated!

Chippings & Litter picking THIS Saturday Nov.5th 2011

Hi,

It’s the first Saturday of the month so the enviro.volunteers will once again be out and about litter picking at The Coppice and Clay Close Lane.

However we’ll also be helping at Clay Close Lane with chipping some brush wood from the recent ditch clearance there.

The dead willow is also going to be felled on Saturday morning to make way for a Jubilee oak. Hopefully we’ll be able to make a nice new bench from the trunk of the old willow.

If you could spare a little time to help then please join us at 9:30am in Clay Close Lane Pocket Park

or for litter picking at 10:00am at Cnr.Cambridge Rd/ The Coppice (Near Bin& Bench)

Tomstone working party – Sat 29th october 2011

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their help at the last enviro.working party at Doctors Close.

However this Saturday 29th Oct. sees a very different type of working party – we’ll be making tombstones!

We’ll meet at the usual time of 9:30am in Clay Close Lane to make fake tombstones, along with all things spooky.

Then at about 5:30pm well transform The Crossing Keeper’s Hut into a haunted house and a little corner of The Copse into a ghost trail.

It’ll be great if you can help in any way either in the morning or on the night.

Tree planting, hedge laying spreading chippings – Sat 15/10/11

Well Autumn is upon us so we can now get back into the swing of things environmentally speaking…….. tree planting, hedge laying spreading chippings etc

So dust off your sturdy shoes and come and join the enviro.volunteers on Saturday 15th at the usual time of 9:30am.

This time we’ll be meeting up in the green off Doctors Close where we’ll start by clearing the path alongside the paddock, sever some ivy and (if we can reach it) we’ll remove some dead wood from some of the large trees. We’ll then use the materials to make a dead hedge.

As usual please feel free to come for a long as you can manage. Age is not a problem as there’ll be plenty of different jobs to choose from for young and old alike.

Tools and refreshments will be provided, but if you have some secateurs you could bring along that would be useful.

All help is much appreciated!

Hunting in the Copse

The Enviro.volunteers and the Guides are organising a bit of Easter egg-citement on St.Georges Day, Saturday 23rd April.

Come and join us for a treasure hunt in The Copse (opp The Railway Vue).

Starting (and finishing) at the Crossing Keeper’s Hut.

Just turn up and collect your clues anytime between 10:30-12:30 (last hunt starts at 12noon).

Afterwards the enviro.volunteers will be having a BBQ, please feel free to join us. Just bring your own supplies and utensils, we’ll provide the cooking facilities!

Sat.16th. 9:30am @ the Dole – Potting up and more hedge laying!

Hi,

Many thanks to everyone who helped last Saturday – the hedge is really starting to take shape!

Thanks to Charles’s competitive streak loads of stakes were prepared, which were quickly put in place ready for Alison & Sue’s weaving skills. We now have a length of hedge complete with smart binding along the top and a newly planted one alongside the old one.

Unfortunately we ran out of time to take up an offer from a nearby resident of some top soil……

So we’ll be meeting up again this Saturday to do a bit more hedge work and so we can pot up the lovely oak trees were were donated with last Saturday – plus of course the surplus hedge plants.

All help would be much appreciated!

So hopefully we’ll see you this Saturday, 16th April at 9:30am, opp.No14a, near the turning head at the end of The Dole (off B1049).

As usual please feel free to come for a long as you can manage – there’ll be plenty of different jobs to choose from.

Tools and refreshments will be provided, but if you have a trowel or secateurs you could bring along that would be useful.
