Working Party – Sat 23rd March – The Cemetery

This Saturday we’ll be meeting up at the Cemetery. There are a few jobs required but I’m sure yet which ones we’ll tackle.
Jobs include:-
Collecting soil for a new wildflower bed and taking it to The Green. Also making duck protection for seeded area.
Retrieving bagged trees from the brambles.
Re-potting and sorting others by the fence and organising the tree nursery
Removing wire from hedge.
Well decide on the morning so will meet by the fence between the allotments and the Cemetery.
Also thanks to everyone for helping last Saturday to dismantle and put away the igloo. I know lots of people have said how nice it’s been to have for more than just the Grotto event so I’ll ask the PC to consider permanent installation.
I know it’s short notice but look forward to seeing you if you can make it.
Cheers

Enviro working party Saturday 18th March from 9:30am @ The Cemetery

Many thanks for everyone’s help so far in getting the six new trees planted at The Cemetery. It was so good to get them in before the snow.
We’ll be meeting up again this Saturday to do the finishing touches. This will involve tying the trees to their stakes, adding some more mulch and spreading fresh chippings in between the trees to suppress the ivy growth. Oh an probably a bit more dead hedging….
As usual all tools and refreshments will be provided. Just turn up!
Hope to see you there.

Enviro. Working Party Saturday 24th Feb 2018 at The Cemetery from 9:30am

Thanks to those who were able to join us again last Saturday. Although we were a very small group we managed to clear most of the remaining saplings and continued cut back the hedge.
As before we used all the vegetation we had removed to build a dead hedge along the B1049 boundary. This hedge serves several purposes. It not only uses up our waste material, it also provides a refuge for wildlife, creates a barrier screen and helps to absorb the traffic noise. So a good win all round.
We still have a little more clearance work to do, but we will definitely be planting and mulching the trees this Saturday. For info we have two Hornbeams, two purple plums and two Chinese Red Birch trees so lots of year round interest.
As usual all tools and refreshments (and biscuits! ) will be provided. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm. Also sturdy shoes and thick gardening gloves are recommended, but I do have some spare gloves if needed.
Hope to see you there!

Enviro Working Party – Saturday 17th February 2018

It was great to see those who could join us yesterday at the Cemetery. We tackled the hardest section first, but managed to make a huge impact. Thank you and I hope any thorns you may have caught aren’t still bothering you.

We’ll meet up once again on Saturday at 9:30am and will be working inside the Cemetery (nearer the entrance this time) on the Holly hedge along Mill Lane.
I’ll bring the new trees with me this time so we can hopefully get them positioned and planted.

Enviro. Working party @ The Cemetery 9:30am Saturday 10th

I’ve just received confirmation that the trees for the Cemetery will be delivered next week….. So that means we’ll be meeting up this Saturday to prepare the area for planting. Firstly we need to clear ivy, sapling Ash and Sycamores and trim back the hedge. We’ll also need to mark out the positions for 6 new trees. With a bit of luck we’ll get that done so next week we can dig the holes and plant them.
Hopefully we’ll have some scouts to assist us. They have already been busy building bird boxes.
We’ll meet up at 9:30am and will be working inside the Cemetery (near the entrance) by the Holly hedge along Mill Lane.
As usual all tools and refreshments will be provided. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm. Hope to see you there.
