The guides joined us once again to help plant and mulch the hedge. Despite being an army of only a few we managed, to plant up another third of the hedge last Saturday!
In fact we caught up with the hedge-layers so did a spot of that too.
However, we still have the remaining third to plant so why don’t you come along and help be a little part of history in the making?
We will be meeting up again this Saturday (2nd April) at 9:30am by The Dole footpath, near the turning head at the end of The Dole (off B1049).
As usual please feel free to come for a long as you can manage – plenty of different jobs to choose from.
Tools and refreshments will be provided, but if you have a spade and could bring it along that would be useful.
All help is much appreciated!
Hope to see you there.
Did you enjoy helping plant trees last year in the new wood off Gatehouse Road near Oakington?
If so, then you might like to lend a helping hand to plant up a new hedge right in the heart of the village.
On this Saturday (March 19th) the enviro.volunteers will be meeting up at 9:30am by The Dole footpath (opp The Community Centre).
We’ve got several hundred plants to get in the ground as soon as possible so your help would be much appreciated.
The ground has already been prepared so it should be fairly easy going. Tools and refreshments will be provided, but if you have a spade and could bring it along that would be useful.
Hope to see you there.
Many thanks to everyone who came and helped with the enviro. working party on Saturday morning.
Despite the miserable weather we managed to squeeze in a few hours before retreating into the community room for a hot cuppa. We’ve cleared the ivy from a sizeable length of the footpath. This means that the new hedge planting (to come soon) won’t have to fight the ivy for nutrients.
Just in case you haven’t already heard, the main organisers of the annual Brook working party have decided to cancel Saturday’s activity. This was felt necessary due to the recent bad weather…. However the enviro.volunteers are a tenacious bunch so we’ve decided we’ll still be meeting up, but at the B1049 end of The Dole instead. We’ll be clearing ivy and dead wood from the old hedge alongside the footpath and preparing it for planting a new one. The Probation teams have already made a great start so hopefully it won’t be too long before the area will be ready to plant up!
